Private Label Teeth Whitening Strips: A Buyer’s Specification Guide

A useful private label whitening strip specification identifies exactly what the buyer receives: the upper and lower strips, the formula version, the pouch contents and the retail pack count. Confirm those details before comparing prices. Two quotations described as “14 strips” may refer to different quantities, so the unit of comparison needs to be written down.

Key points for your project

  • Define individual strips, upper-and-lower pairs, pouches and retail boxes separately.
  • Review the proposed formula and claim evidence alongside the physical strip specification.
  • Compare quotations using the same complete retail pack and packaging configuration.

1. Agree what one unit contains

Ask the supplier to describe one sealed pouch and one sellable retail box. Does each pouch hold an upper-and-lower pair, one strip, or another arrangement? Record the number of pouches and total individual strips in the box. Keep “applications” as a separate, confirmed instruction-based statement rather than guessing from the count.

For illustration, 14 pouches containing one upper-and-lower pair each would contain 28 individual strips. This is a counting example, not a standard pack configuration. Confirm whether the quoted MOQ refers to retail boxes, pouches or another unit.

2. Specify dimensions and the supplied construction

Request the upper and lower strip dimensions separately, ideally with a drawing or marked photograph. Ask about the shape, backing or carrier, release liner and the details that can be customized. If your design uses a particular cut, clarify whether it is already available or requires a new cutting die.

Record the agreed tolerances and the method used to check them. A product photograph cannot establish dimensions or production tolerances. Ask the supplier to identify the material and construction represented by the sample, and note any differences between a stock sample and the proposed bulk product.

3. Review the formula reference and claim support

Ask for the formula reference, ingredient information, intended user, directions, warnings and storage information proposed for your destination market. Treat descriptions such as peroxide-free, purple or dissolving as specification points to clarify; they do not replace a complete product record.

Do not transfer performance or tolerability claims from another strip. The American Dental Association’s whitening overview describes tooth sensitivity and gingival irritation as possible adverse effects of whitening. Ask what evidence supports the exact product and claims you plan to offer. A supplier’s general whitening information is not a test result for your selected formula.

4. Treat the pouch and retail box as separate specifications

Confirm pouch dimensions, material specification, sealing arrangement, printing and opening feature. Ask what packaging compatibility and shelf-life evidence relates to the actual formula-and-pouch combination. Do not copy a shelf-life period from another item in the catalog.

For the outer box, agree the pouch layout, box dimensions, inserts and how product information will be supplied. Keep space for the agreed batch and date information. Review the pouch and box together: a count or instruction change on one component must be reflected in the other.

5. Use one specification sheet for supplier replies

Start with the following fields and ask suppliers to mark any item they cannot yet confirm. The objective is a comparable product, not simply a comparable headline price.

Whitening strip specification worksheet
FieldWhat to record
CountIndividual strips per pouch; pouches and total strips per retail box.
GeometryUpper and lower dimensions, shape, drawing and agreed tolerances.
FormulaFormula reference, ingredient information and intended directions.
Primary packPouch material, size, seal, print and compatibility evidence.
Retail packBox, insert, artwork, language and batch/date arrangement.
EvidenceRelevant reports, scope, product identity and proposed claims.
QuotationPrice per complete retail box and items charged separately.

6. Review samples against the proposed specification

Check the supplied count, dimensions, liner handling, opening feature, seal appearance and printed information. Record the sample and packaging versions. Ask which checks are part of the supplier’s quality plan and which require another testing provider. Agree any acceptance criteria before an inspection is scheduled.

Keep packaging review separate from performance substantiation. A sample that looks right does not establish a whitening result or confirm shelf life. Any user evaluation should follow the product’s reviewed directions and the appropriate assessment process for your project.

7. Normalize the quotation and sample request

Compare the same formula reference, upper-and-lower dimensions, pouch count and retail box. Ask which changes affect MOQ: formula, flavor, cut, printed pouch or printed box. Clarify printing setup, cutting dies, development, testing, sample shipping and freight as separate quotation lines where relevant.

Explore the available whitening strip formats, then send a short brief with the target country, pack count, estimated order, customization requirements and sample destination. For US and European projects, identify the actual destination country and whether the route is an EU member state or the UK. If an item is undecided, ask for clearly identified options rather than allowing each supplier to assume a different configuration.

Your project checklist

  • Upper and lower strips are defined with dimensions and drawing references.
  • Pouch, pair and retail box counts use unambiguous units.
  • Formula, proposed claims and supporting records identify the selected product.
  • Pouch and outer-box versions are reviewed together.
  • Quotation and MOQ refer to the same complete sellable pack.

Buyer questions

Does a box of 14 whitening strips mean 14 pairs?

Not necessarily. Ask for the number of individual strips per pouch, pouches per box and total upper-and-lower pairs. Use the confirmed count in both the quotation and artwork.

Can the strip shape and pouch packaging be customized?

Identify the shape, size and printing you need, then ask which existing options are available and whether changes require a new die, packaging development or a different order quantity.

Can one formula report support every strip in a range?

Ask how the report’s product identity and scope relate to each formula and configuration. A similar product name alone does not establish that the evidence covers your order.
